Vardy red card

England striker Jamie Vardy was shown a straight red card for a terrible challenge on Doherty in the 66th minute.

The 31-year-old forward won the ball first but could've seriously injured his opponent with a dangerous tackle.

Leicester are unlikely to appeal the red card and Vardy will serve a three-game suspension.

He won't be available to face his former club Fleetwood Town in the League Cup - and will also miss Premier League games against Southampton and Liverpool.

Vardy has an incredible goalscoring record against Liverpool, scoring seven goals in his last five outings.

Liverpool fans on Twitter were quick to realise that they'll be facing Leicester on September 1 - the third match of Vardy's three-game suspension.

Jurgen Klopp will be just as happy as the Liverpool supporters.

Only Andy Cole and Thierry Henry have scored more goals against the Anfield side in the Premier League than Vardy.

Klopp & co must first turn their attention to Monday night's tricky trip to Crystal Palace.

The German coach is trying to manage expectations following talk that Liverpool can challenge Manchester City for the title.

"We know about our expectations and we realise there is a really positive atmosphere around us in the pre-season," said Klopp.

"That is good that people are positive, but this season will be unbelievably hard.

"We cannot be anything different than the challenger because we haven't won anything since I came in.

"We have to invest more, we have to fight more, we have to create more. That's the only thing we expect from ourselves. We will see where it leads to."
