Chelsea fans raise a valid point about Jorginho & Kante's partnership after Arsenal win

Chelsea v Arsenal - Premier League

Chelsea fans got their best look yet at Maurizio Sarri's philosophies against Arsenal.

The Italian manager's tactics were put to their hardest competitive test yet, with tonnes of positives and a few negatives coming away from the 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Mateo Kovacic all made their home debuts, with the latter really changing the game after coming on for Ross Barkley.

Kovacic and Eden Hazard were both introduced at 2-2 and played decisive roles in Marcos Alonso's winner.

The Croatian midfielder - who is on-loan from Real Madrid - is likely to become Sarri's third midfielder in the coming weeks.

Chelsea fans were, understandably, excited by Kovacic's performance, but their opinion on the two players next to him - Jorginho and Kante - changed slightly after the win.

Jorginho sits as the deepest midfielder in Sarri's system, with Kante pushing further forward and the Frenchman was even playing on the shoulder of the centre-backs at times.

However, fans are not convinced by their roles and feel Kante is better suited to a more pragmatic position.

They're also not exactly excited by Jorginho's defensive skills, with the Italian international unable to prevent a number of Arsenal cut-backs in the first-half.

It's an interesting theory, one which also raises a lot of questions.

If Kante sits deeper in Sarri's system, would he be able to control the tempo like Jorginho? And does the Italian have the energy to play the box-to-box role? Who knows.

However, the one thing that is certain is that with the current system in place, Chelsea will surrender chances to their opponents.

And Rio Ferdinand in the BT Sport studio is not convinced the Blues can mount a title challenge this season.

“These two teams will not be anywhere near winning the league on this showing,” he said.

“They just don’t defend, you’ve got to do both sides of the game. You’ve got to have balance with the way you play this game.”

Kind if hard to disagree with him.
