Barcelona got their La Liga season off to a positive start on Saturday evening.

The Blaugrana recorded a 3-0 victory over Deportivo Alaves at the Nou Camp, but they didn't have things all their own way.

Alaves frustrated Ernesto Valverde's side for the first hour of the game and Barca were really struggling to make the break through.

But when you have Lionel Messi in your team, things usually turn in your favour and the little magician was on hand to give Barca the lead with a brilliant free-kick on 64 minutes.

He was the best player on the park by a mile, rolling a his set-piece under the Alaves wall after one had struck the bar previously.

After that, Barca hit another gear, with Coutinho adding another on 83 minutes before Messi got his second with the last kick of the game.

But the moment of the match wasn't actually produced by Messi, as goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen had the whole stadium purring early in the second-half.

The crowd were growing frustrated with the score at 0-0, but the German keeper was on hand to produce a moment of magic that seemed to give Barca and the crowd a huge boost.

Imagine attempting that at 0-0. One small mistake and the Alaves striker would have been through on goal.

The reaction you can hear from the crowd in the video just says it all.

It's going to be a very interesting season for Barca after an eventful transfer window.

Arthur Melo and Arturo Vidal made their La Liga debuts from the bench, with Clement Lenglet and Malcom also raring to go after arriving in the summer.

Messi made it clear in his pre-match speech before the Boca Juniors friendly that the Champions League is the primary goal for the team this season.

With the Argentine looking as sharp as ever and some stellar new recruits, you certainly wouldn't put it past them.
