Brock Lesnar's reign as Universal Champion is expected to come to an end tonight when he faces Roman Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam.

This would bring The Beast title reign to an end after 504 days, which has shattered one of the longest major championships reigns in the WWE's modern era; CM Punk's 434-day reign as WWE Champion.

Ever since Lesnar surpassed Punk's reign, there have been many discussions over the legitimacy of the record since Lesnar has only defended the Universal title a handful of times during his reign.

Due to this, some WWE fans believe Punk had the more successful championship run because he defended the WWE title on more occasions during his title reign.

However, Paul Heyman, who managed both wrestlers during their prime, has put an end to the debate once and for all.

Lesnar or Punk?

Heyman stated during an interview with WFAN radio’s Benigno & Roberts in New York ahead of SummerSlam that Lesnar had the more successful run because WWE's stock price has increased as a result.

He said, via Cageside Seats: “What was the stock when CM Punk was the champion? What’s the stock now?

"I have news for everybody. I know this will come as a shock. I know this is the type of news... fans hate to hear. Ready? It’s a business. It’s a business.

"So the stock, when CM Punk was champion was, what? 19? 20? 21? The stock is now at 80! $80 per share.

"Who was the main event of WrestleMania? Who is the main event of SummerSlam? Who’s the most featured performer? Who’s on all the billboards? Who’s on all the posters? Who right now has an advocate speaking for him on WFAN? Brock Lesnar.

"Stock’s at 80. Obviously something is being done that is correct.”

Punk's WWE future

Heyman also answered questions about Punk's future, and if he thinks he will return to the WWE one day.

He said: “I don’t text him at all. And... in this business I’ve learned never to presume that someone’s not coming back, but if anybody’s not coming back, he’s the exception that defines the rule.”

Heyman is probably working when it comes to his answer to the more successful champion debate, but his answer sounds real when it comes to Punk's future in WWE.

However, in the eyes of WWE fans, Punk might edge it over Lesnar in terms of the more successful run as champion to due how many times more he defended the WWE title during his reign.
