The Brazilian produced a clinical finish following a fine run from Benjamin Mendy. Were City done? Absolutely not. Huddersfield ‘keeper Ben Hamer failed to hold onto Mendy’s cross and Aguero was there to finish. The visitors got a goal back shortly before half-time through Jon Stankovic's effort from close range, but normal process was resumed when David Silva scored a sensational free-kick after the restart.Aguero completed his hat-trick when he turned home Mendy's cross. Then, Huddersfield's misery was compounded by a Terence Kongolo own goal.

Fans react to Mendy's performance

Mendy was a standout performer for City. Playing on the left in a 3-4-1-2 formation, his heat map from the first half shows he acted more like a left winger.

The Frenchman was a danger throughout and his performance sparked a reaction on Twitter.

With Mendy in the line-up, Pep Guardiola can afford to play Aguero and Jesus up front together. And that’s bad news for Leroy Sane.

The German started on the bench for the second straight week and football fans don’t see how he’s going to feature if Mendy continues to be effective both going forward and in defence.

It’s worth remembering that Guardiola only stopped playing Aguero and Jesus together last season when Mendy got injured.

Now that he’s back and playing so well, the Man City boss can continue to start two strikers instead of dropping one.

The saving grace for Sane, though, is that he remains an incredible talent and Guardiola frequently changes his system.

There will be matches in the season when Guardiola feels starting Sane is the best option.

But after missing out on Germany's World Cup squad, Sane will have wanted to make a fast start to the season. He hasn't been afforded that opportunity.
