For all the plaudits Brighton deserve for their 3-2 victory over Manchester United, it has to be said their opponents were utterly hapless.Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy and Pascal Gross scored the goals to earn the Seagulls another famous three points against the 20-time English champions, just months after their last upset. There was something fitting about the statistic that this was the first time in almost two years that United have conceded three goals in a league game.Throughout the summer, there was talk of new centre-backs: Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, and Jerome Boateng were all reportedly targeted. The new never arrived, and the old gave a reminder at the AMEX of why Jose Mourinho does not trust them, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof putting in a chaotic display.Despite it only coming two games into the new season, the significance of the result won't be lost on Mourinho. The Portuguese was animated on the touchline. In his last days at Chelsea, he accused his players of 'betraying' him and similar thoughts must have been going through his mind. That said, there is no real excusing his bluntness in his post-match interview with BeIN Sports. When asked by a reporter whether the performance was befitting of a club of United's stature, he responded simply:"We made mistakes and we were punished by the mistakes."

Mourinho was evidently fuming

However, when the interviewer then noted that the Red Devils seemed to lack communication and chemistry, he hit back:

"You must be fantastic in your job to have the ability to, from the stands, to speak about chemistry between players."

The reporter was understandably flustered by his needless rudeness - check out the interview below:

Early though it may be, outbursts like that are only going to fuel the narrative of the United manager's dwindling prestige.

The aura that once surrounded him has been chipped away at, slowly but surely, and suffered another hammer blow on Sunday afternoon.

In truth, the journalist had a point. According to Squawka, in their hour on the pitch together, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial failed to exchange a single pass between one another. That certainly would appear to indicate a lack of chemistry.

As for communication, their defensive slip-ups said it all.

It's vital that United get back on track next Monday at home to Tottenham, or their beleaguered boss really will have some serious questions to answer.

Do you blame Mourinho for United's defeat? Have your say in the comments.
