SummerSlam 2018 is in the books and WWE's biggest event of the summer saw some major changes to the entire landscape of the company. Seth Rollins regained his Intercontinental title, Ronda Rousey climbed to the top of the Raw women's division in record time with her win over Alexa Bliss and Roman Reigns finally grabbed the big win by conquering the beast, Brock Lesnar. But none of these could go down as the biggest shock of the night. That came in the SmackDown Women's Championship match that saw Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch take on the Champion, Carmella, for the title.

Triple Threat

The match was good. Our WWE lead writer Alex McCarthy saw fit to award it an 8.5/10 in his SummerSlam results and recap article, making it one of his favourites of the entire show.

After managing to get the better of both Flair and Lynch earlier on, Carmella then found herself amid a barrage of offense that culminated in Becky locking the champion in the Disarm-Her in the middle of the ring.

With Carmella looking ready to tap out, Becky seemed set to claim the championship she has so desperately been searching for since becoming the inaugural SD Live Women's Champion and then losing it to Alexa Bliss in late 2016.

And then came Charlotte. Doing what Flairs do best, Charlotte took her opportunity and hit Natural Selection on Lynch and followed it up with the three-count to rip the title from Becky's grasp and add to her collection.

The Aftermath

That's when things got very interesting.

After the match, Becky and Charlotte hugged as if the Irish Lasskicker understood what her friend had done.

And then it all changed.

Becky flipped a switch. She slapped Charlotte full in the face, sending the new Champ to the mat, where Lynch pummelled her some more before storming out of the arena to a raucous applause from the audience who just watched Becky Lynch turn heel for the first time on the main roster.

The Becky that loves Quinoa and having fun is gone. The Lasskicker is here.

Here's the latest episode of Turnbuckle Talk, GiveMeSport's WWE podcast, this week featuring Jeff Hardy and, amazingly, Becky Lynch.
