Klay Thompson will become a free agent next summer but has continuously stated that he has no desire to leave the Golden State Warriors.

The sharpshooter can easily earn a max contract on various teams around the league but he's unlikely to entertain other offers.

He's currently the third offensive option on the Warriors roster behind Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant but he can be the go-to guy and leader on other teams.

Low maintenance

But the shooting guard doesn't seem interested by that as he's once again reiterated his commitment to the reigning champions.

Speaking at the Thompson Family Foundation Golf Tournament over the weekend, he told Mark Medina of the San Jose Mercury News that he wants to end his career in the Bay Area.

“I’ve said it many times before: I would like to be a Warrior for life,” Thompson said. “Contract negotiations are way down the line.

"But I think we all have the same interest. I would love to be here for the rest of my career.”

This will come as a blow to rival teams who are hoping to lure the three-point marksman away from Oakland and to fans who would love to see the current Warriors roster break up.

With Durant set to enter free agency again next summer and Draymond Green hitting the open market in 2020, the Dubs will struggle to offer max contracts to all of their superstars.

Therefore, Klay may be asked to take a discount to keep their formidable unit together.

Asked if he'd be willing to make that sacrifice, he said: “It’s tough to say. I’d definitely be interested.

"But at the end of the day, I’m going to be a free agent in 2019. Number one on my list would obviously be to stay with the Warriors.”

The 28-year-old is in a comfortable position with Golden State and isn't a player who's obsessed with being the main man on a team.

With three championship rings under his belt, he's happy to continue playing his part on a winning team.

His father, Mychal, is also sure that his son won't ever wear another uniform.

“Oh yeah, you can mark it down,” Mychal Thompson said. “Klay’s going to retire in the Warriors’ uniform.

"He’s going to play at Chase Center (the Warriors’ new arena, opening in 2019), and he’s not going to be at Chase Center as a visiting player, he’s going to be a Warrior for the next seven or eight years.”

The All-Star's future has never seriously been in doubt and it's clear that it very much remains in Oakland.
