Croatian international Luka Modric has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan in recent weeks. The 32-year-old midfielder has spent six years at Real Madrid, having joined from Tottenham Hotspur for £30m in 2012.He's won four Champions League trophies and has deservedly earned a reputation as one of the finest central midfielders on the planet.Modric has two years remaining on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. But there's been plenty of reports suggesting that he tried to follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Italy.Ronaldo, 33, moved to Juventus this summer in an €105m deal after nine years in La Liga.On Sunday, Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport reported that Modric was the one contacting Inter Milan over a potential move, not the other way round.

Modric speaks out

A post on Instagram - referring to Gazzetta's report - said that FIFA called Modric after Real Madrid reported Inter Milan to the Association for talking to the midfielder while he was under contract.

The former Spurs midfielder reportedly told FIFA that he instigated the contact with Inter Milan.

“This is the most stupid thing in history!!!” wrote Modric in the comments section.

Modric has clearly had enough of the rumours.

The Serie A transfer window shut on Friday August 17 so the Croatian superstar certainly won't be moving to Italy this summer.

Yet to return to full fitness, Modric came off the bench in Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Getafe on Sunday night.

Emilio Butragueno, a director at Real Madrid, recently insisted that Modric "couldn't be happier" to be playing for Los Blancos.

"There is no issue with Modric, he's delighted to continue with us," he said on Movistar +.

Don't be surprised if news soon breaks that the veteran midfielder has signed a bumper new deal at Madrid.
