There was plenty of unrest around Manchester United after Sunday's defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.Tipped as one of the worst performances of the Jose Mourinho era, the Red Devils endured a terrible first-half thats saw them enter the break 3-1 down and they failed to recover before full-time.All in all, it made for a rather solemn Mourinho as he made his way through the press section, providing rude answers to some reports.Speaking to United's official website, he analysed: “We made too many mistakes and we were punished by the mistakes."We were punished by every mistake we made and I think the third goal is too hard for the team [to come back].

Man Utd struggle vs Brighton

"They took that confidence from us. Sometimes you make mistakes and you are not punished, sometimes the opponent doesn't take advantage of your gifts, doesn't take advantage of the mistakes you make.

"Sometimes they do it and this time it was almost three from three, so they were clinical with the gifts we gave them and, because of that, I think they deserve it.”

The result comes amid rumours that all isn't well at Old Trafford and some bookmakers even have Mourinho down as favourite to be the first manager sacked this season.

Woodward entered Man Utd dressing room

That considered, it caught supporters off guard when one of the journalists present at the Amex Stadium - Ciaran Kelly - posted a rather ominous tweet after the match.

He wrote: "Ed Woodward was in the away dressing room around five minutes. Left typing a message into his phone. Appears to have missed Jose Mourinho who was doing flash interviews at the time. Didn’t wait for him."

It attracted plenty of attention on Twitter and in response, Kelly has written an article on Woodward's behaviour and it seems there's a logical explanation.

Woodward's 'mini tradition'

Writing for the Manchester Evening News, he explained: "United's executive vice-chairman made his way down from the directors' box at the Amex just a few minutes after the final whistle.

"Regardless of the result, Woodward has made it a mini tradition to greet United's players and staff after games he attends in recent years.

"The 55-year-old spent around five minutes in there before the players got changed and walked past the waiting reporters in the mixed zone."

Depending on your opinion on Mourinho, breathe a sigh of relief or vent your frustration.

It seems Woodward was simply being polite, showing his face to the players and honouring a tradition he has carried out with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton in the past.

The clarification certainly makes a lot of sense after the initial news which, understandably, caught some supporters out.

The Guardian have also reported in the aftermath of the game that the United board have given their full backing to Mourinho after the Brighton loss.

For all the apparent negativity around the manager and club it seems - at least for now - everyone is sticking together and standing firm.
