Gabriel Jesus has had a tough few months for his national side. Big things were expected of the youngster for Brazil at the World Cup.

Tite showed faith in Jesus over Roberto Firmino in Russia, but the Manchester City youngster did not justify that call.

The 21-year-old started all five of Brazil's games but failed to score in the tournament as Brazil crashed out in the quarter-finals to Belgium.

And Jesus' misery has been compounded as Tite has left him out of Brazil's upcoming friendlies against United States and El Salvador.

Everton of Gremio and Pedro of Fluminense have been given their first call ups, while Firmino is expected to start in Jesus' absence.

But how has Jesus taken it? The 21-year-old has reacted to the disappointment with true class, and made some lovely comments about Firmino in the process.

"They called me minutes before the announcement. I was happy with the call, but obviously I was not happy to be left out," Jesus told ESPN Brasil, per the Metro.

"I always want to play for City and for my country. It does not mean, however, that I am angry with someone at the football federation.

"I will keep working but I accept that other players deserve a chance, like [Roberto] Firmino, who has been playing really well since last season."

That's a superb reaction from Jesus.

The 21-year-old is understandably upset about being left out of Tite's squad and you would understand if he vented his frustration to the media.

But he did quite the opposite. Despite losing out on a place in the squad to his rival, Jesus commended Firmino for playing 'really well'.

That speaks volumes about his character. Jesus will be hoping he can re-find his form for Manchester City in order to fight his way back into Brazil's squad once more.
