Carlo Ancelotti's appointment as Chelsea manager in 2009 was met with much optimism.

The Italian had spent eight successful seasons at AC Milan where he had established himself as one of the world's leading managers.

He was given the task of bringing success back to Stamford Bridge, and he did not disappoint in his first season at the club.

Ancelotti was able to win the Community Shield in his first competitive fixture at the club, and he followed it up with further silverware as his team were crowned Premier League champions.

However, he could not replicate that success in the 2010/11 season.

Early exits in the League Cup and the FA Cup weakened his position as manager, and his contract was terminated when he could only lead the west London club to a second place finish with just 71 points.

Ancelotti was relatively active in the transfer market as he managed to sign ten players in his two season spell with the club.

Take a look below what happened to the signings he made during his time at Stamford Bridge:

Ross Turnbull

Turnbull was Ancelotti's first signing as Chelsea manager, joining on a free transfer from Middlesborough.

The stopper made 19 appearances for Chelsea in four seasons, before enjoying spells at Doncaster Rovers, Barnsley and Leeds United.

He retired from professional football in 2017 and now works as a goalkeeper coach at Hartlepool United.

Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge had huge potential when Chelsea signed him but he failed to live up to expectations at the club.

The forward was sold to Liverpool in 2013, where he still plays today.

Yuri Zhirkov

Zhirkov flopped. Chelsea paid CSKA Moscow £18 million for his services but he failed to impress at Stamford Bridge.

The Russian spent two seasons at Chelsea before departing for Anzhi Makhachkala in 2011.

Now 35, he currently finds himself still playing in Russia with Zenit St Petersburg.

Nemanja Matic

Finally, a signing that worked out for Chelsea. Signed for £1.5 million from Košice, it was hoped he could develop into a first team regular at the club.

The Serbian left for Benfica in 2011, but Jose Mourinho decided to bring him back to Chelsea in 2014 in a £21 million deal.

He currently plays at Manchester United after being sold for £40 million in 2017.

Yossi Benayoun

Another odd signing. He made 24 appearances in his three season spell at the club, scoring just once.

Now 38, he is currently playing for Maccabi Petah Tikva.

Tomáš Kalas

Kalas signed for Chelsea for £5.2 million as a 17-year-old, but he has failed to break through into the first team.

Now 25, he has been on eight loan spells so far in his career. He is still at Chelsea, but is expected to be loaned out or sold before the end of August.

Ramires

The Brazilian was a good servant to the club. The dynamic midfielder made 246 appearances in his six season spell before leaving for Jiangsu Suning in 2016.

Matej Delac

Another youngster that Ancelotti signed for Chelsea.

The Croatian goalkeeper never made an appearance for the club during his eight year spell.

He finally left earlier this year to join Danish Superliga outfit, AC Horsens.

Fernando Torres

Ancelotti was responsible for the club signing Torres for £50 million.

It seemed a good deal at the time, but the Spaniard would flop massively as he looked a shadow of his former self.

After spells with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, he has recently signed for Japenese side, Sagan Tosu.

David Luiz

Luiz was one of Ancelotti's more successful signings at Chelsea.

The defender was widely criticised for his defensive abilities after making the £21.3 million move from Benfica in 2011, but he has matured into a more responsible player.

After falling out of favour with Antonio Conte last season, he now looks set to be a key part in Maurizio Sarri's defence this campaign.
