Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius looks set to join Besiktas on a two-year loan deal. The Turkish club will pay the Reds a fee of £2.25m for the loan, with an option to buy for £7m in 2019.After making the Liverpool No.1 jersey his own last summer, Karius endured a nightmare summer. The 25-year-old German - who had relegated Simon Mignolet to the bench - made two unforgettable errors in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev.Karius was in tears on the pitch and returned to Melwood in July for pre-season training.Given the chance to prove himself, Karius made a string of errors in pre-season friendlies to convince Jurgen Klopp to spend a then world-record fee on Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker. And it appears that the Champions League final may be his last competitive game in a Liverpool shirt.Karius is set to join Besiktas with Mignolet replacing him as Alisson's back-up.Liverpool have already sold one goalkeeper this summer.Danny Ward joined Leicester City for £12.5m after making two Premier League appearances in six years on Liverpool's books. And fans on social media were rather surprised that Karius will be sold for less than the inexperienced Ward.

Ward was behind Karius and Mignolet in the Anfield pecking order last season - and was only signed by Leicester as back-up to Kasper Schmeichel.

The two transfer fees show just how badly the Champions League final damaged Karius's reputation.

It's obvious that Karius needs a fresh start - and Besiktas could be a great opportunity for him.

Jurgen Klopp recently insisted that he was "totally happy" with Karius after a pre-season littered with mistakes.

"Loris is now 25, at an age, in which keepers keep improving," said Klopp to Kicker.

"All the best keepers make mistakes, but sometimes timing is important in life. If Loris makes a mistake now, it isn't cool. In eight years nobody will care. We are totally happy with him.

"We simply identified another keeper, who is better, and signed him."
