Liverpool are in advanced talks about a potential two-year loan deal for Loris Karius.

The suitors in question are Turkey's Besiktas and it seems they're now within touching distance of getting their hands on Karius until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Rumours had been circling over the coming days with BBC Sport eventually reporting on Monday night that Besiktas were on the brink of a transfer.

Liverpool fans can expect an announcement in the coming days with Besiktas believed to have negotiated a clause allowing them to buy Karius when his loan expires.

The 25-year-old hasn't featured in a competitive match for Liverpool since his disastrous performance in the Champions League final, where he was at fault for goals from Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

Karius poised for Besiktas move

Karius struggled during pre-season friendlies against Tranmere Rovers and Borussia Dortmund, before the signing of Alisson Becker essentially moved him to the bench.

Nevertheless, there still looked to be hope for the German when Liverpool took the decision to sell Danny Ward and reports cast the future of Simon Mignolet into doubt.

Fast forward to late August, though, and it appears Liverpool have decided that Mignolet will be the club's number two goalkeeper.

Why Klopp chose Mignolet

The decision will come as a surprise to many and the general consensus amongst Liverpool fans was that they'd rather Karius was given his second chance as the back-up shot stopper.

However, that wasn't to be and an explanatory report from the Liverpool Echo has gone into the reasons why.

The report read: "Klopp believes that Mignolet’s wealth of Premier League experience and his professionalism makes him the better candidate to be Alisson Becker's understudy this season."

Professionalism? Liverpool think Karius are lacking it?

It's certainly an eye-catching reason from Klopp and it would certainly be intriguing to know exactly what makes Mignolet so much more professional.

They're not the only reasons listed, mind, with clubs' unwillingness to meet the £12 million asking price placed upon Mignolet also playing its part.

That being said, it's certainly interesting to note that Mignolet is considered to have greater professionalism than his colleague.

It's clear that Klopp has his reasons for choosing Mignolet, some of which are more than fair, but the decision won't necessarily go down a treat with Kopites.

The report then went on into greater detail about Liverpool's Belgian shot stopper, revealing that Besiktas were initially interested in him themselves.

Nevertheless, Liverpool insisted upon a permanent move for Mignolet and Napoli also pulled out of a move in favour of ex-Arsenal man David Ospina.

All that considered, it's Karius who is being shipped out of Liverpool and there's every chance that that night in Kiev was now his final outing for them.
