We’re experiencing a peculiar moment in heavyweight boxing, as for the first time in a long time, Anthony Joshua isn’t the centre of attention.Whilst he is sure to face the winner of Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury at some point, all eyes have been on the outspoken pair since an announcement of their bout was made in Belfast at the weekend.Probably enjoying the peace for now, Joshua is sure to be back in the spotlight soon, with his fight against Alexander Povetkin scheduled for September 22nd at Wembley Stadium. The perception is that the Russian will pose no huge problems for Joshua, and that the real test will come further down the line. This is a dangerous way to view Povetkin, though. His only previous defeat came against Wladimir Klitschko in 2013, who was then in prime shape, and his last fight on Joshua’s undercard saw a brutal knockout on David Price.Put simply, Povetkin poses a real threat.Joshua certainly seems to be taking him seriously and is preparing with a couple of carefully selected sparring partners, who have now been revealed. One is Martin Bakole, touted by Barry McGuigan as “the most naturally gifted heavyweight out there” and someone who will “soon challenge for a world title”.Bakole is originally from DR Congo but is based in Scotland, and with an 11-0 record is soon making a name for himself.Another sparring with Joshua is the European heavyweight champion, Agit Kabayel. The German is also undefeated at 18-0 and is seen as another big prospect.

Both men are relatively close to the same size as Povetkin, and with their pedigree it is clear Joshua is not taking the Russian lightly.

The fight will see Joshua return to London after fighting in Cardiff in successive bouts.

Joshua will be hoping for another victory in front of his now customary sell-out crowd.
