The Patriots dynasty under Belichick and Brady is arguably the greatest in NFL history, and that's being lenient to other dynasties.

The longevity of their success over the past two decades is entirely unprecedented.

Eight Super Bowl appearances and five wins in over eighteen seasons is simply remarkable, and thought it's been a joy for the people of Boston and the greater New England area, their almost unrivalled success has inevitably bred many a hater of Patriots football and the future Hall of Fame duo undoubtedly cop the majority of that hatred.

Dominance and success creates envy, as is seen in many sports leagues around the world, but Brady thinks there's another reason that so many NFL fans dislike both himself and the Pats.

Brady revealed his interesting theory in a brief appearance on WEEI's Kirk and Callahan on Tuesday whilst talking about dealing with criticism.

The 41-year-old posited that the lack of an international element in football means fans don't embrace players from other franchises like is done in other sports where national teams are present.

“I think it’s a different part about football, for example, in America,” Brady told WEEI. “I mean, if you look at a lot of other sports around the world, at some point, maybe you get to represent your country, like watching the World Cup in the summer.”

“I see all these soccer players that play for these different clubs but then come together for their country at some point. In America, we never get a chance to do that. So, most Americans that live in other parts of the country, they don’t like the Patriots. They don’t like me, and I can understand that.”

It's certainly an interesting theory, and it definitely applies to the soccer world in which players from all clubs are embraced by the nation passionately come world cup time, but the same isn't always true for other US sports.

The US Mens National Basketball team is well supported, but some players will never truly be embraced due to the deep seated hatred that some fanbases have for them. LeBron James and Kevin Durant are enormously popular, but both have their fair share of strong haters and there are those will never support them even when they're representing the USA.

And, whilst this theory does have some credibility, the main reason the Pats are disliked so widely is down to their success and the way they've achieved it.

Spygate and Deflategate will never be forgotten by certain groups of fans, and the seemingly cold hearted nature of the organisation makes them a tough team to embrace despite their consistent excellence on the field.

Realistically, the other 31 fanbases are sick and tired of the Patriots and Brady being in the Super Bowl almost ever year and that is the overwhelming reason that they're disliked.
