If Jack Wilshere’s career were a book or a movie, it would certainly be “Lemony Snickets: A series of unfortunate events”.Having been tipped for greatness early on, Wilshere’s career lurched from untimely injury to another, curtailing any chance he might have had of fulfilling his massive potential.Wilshere was never allowed to truly get into his rhythm at Arsenal and as a result, was shipped out by new manager Unai Emery. The Spaniard told Wilshere that he was more than welcome to stay at the Gunners, but he would by no means be a regular starter in the new era Arsenal line-up.Wilshere was a man in demand, however, and did not spend very long looking for pastures new.West Ham were more than happy to snap the Englishman up as Manuel Pellegrini conducted a major squad overhaul at the east London club. The Hammers completed some very exciting business during the summer as they look to make an assault on the top half of the table and perhaps even the European places.Wilshere will have a big role to play if Pellegrini’s men are to pull that off, but it seems the new boss is already a big fan of the 26-year-old.In fact some might think he is too big a fan.

Football fans react to Pirlo comparison

Speaking ahead of the Hammers trip across London to face Arsenal, Pellegrini was eager to point out just what an asset Wilshere is.

However, his comments have not gone down well with football fans after he compared Wilshere to legendary Italian, Andrea Pirlo.

“A lot of you will remember Juventus around four or five years ago, they played with one holding midfielder. It was Pirlo. And Pirlo is the same as Jack. He has the same characteristics as Jack,” said Pellegrini.

“I think that Jack Wilshere must play as Jack Wilshere. He is not a defensive midfielder to hold the line. He is a midfielder more comfortable when he comes out from our side and not receiving the ball back from the other goal.

“You must leave him to play alone, to play the moment, to receive the ball because he is going to make things happen.”

Unsurprisingly, football fans have taken to Twitter to voice their quite obvious disagreement with such a statement.

Looks like Pellegrini is the only man that thinks Wilshere has similar traits to Pirlo.

However, if Wilshere can replicate some of his best form at the heart of that West Ham midfield while staying injury free, he could prove a lot of doubters wrong.

One can only hope, for his sake, that he can get through an entire season.
