Believe it or not, there’s still some kit releases remaining in the Premier League.
Considering how early some teams release their new home strip, you would imagine that all their new kits would be on the shelves at the club shop by now.
Besides, Liverpool played their final home game of last season in their home kit, for this season.
That’s not the case, though, with Chelsea still waiting to unveil their brand new third kit.
Selling merchandise has become a major part of modern Premier League football and that’s no more apparent than in the multitude of new kits that come out every year.
Chelsea yet to release third kit
The release of a new jersey used to come over a number of years and clubs such as Arsenal maintained a two-year policy right until 2014.
Now, however, almost every club from the Premier League to non-league have a different strip every single year and that includes the third kit.
Chelsea have already released their home kit – a classic blue effort with lines of white and red along the side of the torso.
Chelsea third ‘leaked’
As for the their away jersey, they’ve gone for a simple yellow look that was on show for their win over Huddersfield Town last week.
What about this illusive third kit, though?
Well, Chelsea fans have been given something of a sneak preview ahead of the official release thanks to FootyHeadlines who are the best-of-the-best when it comes to kit leaks.
They had the Arsenal and United home shirts absolutely spot on months before their release and have now exposed Chelsea’s alternate strip.
Check out their photographs below:
Erm, that’s certainly an interesting look.
The third kit will be a light blue colour with darker blue details and orange applications, with Nike using images of London within the camouflage patterning.
Unsurprisingly, given the unique look of the shirt, supporters have been reacting on Twitter and the new release has split fans right down the middle.
Chelsea fans react on Twitter
Some think it’s an eyesore, but others love it – check out the reaction below:
There’s certainly some creative license when it comes to football shirts these days, but Nike have undoubtedly pushed the boat out here.
Seeing the Chelsea players line up in stitching of the London skyline and the Gherkin will definitely be an interesting sight this season.
Ultimately, though, as long as Chelsea enjoy a successful campaign, the supporters won’t care what the players are wearing.
Maurizio Sarri certainly has a difficult task on his hands to win silverware this season and making the top four would be seen as a fantastic achievement.
Ensuring they’re the top team in the city depicted on their third kit, they’ll go a long way in 2018-19.
