Having signed Alisson, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, you wouldn’t think Liverpool would have any regrets about their transfer business.

But then there’s Nabil Fekir.

Fekir was on the verge of signing for Liverpool and even conducted an official interview with the club which has never been released.

But then in the last minute, the deal fell through.

Reports have suggested that it was due to a knee problem that Liverpool discovered in the medical but that is yet to be confirmed by either party.

And there was yet another attempt to discover the truth after Fekir made his return to domestic football with Lyon following his World Cup triumph with France.

After coming on as a late substitute for Lyon in their 2-0 win against Strasbourg, Fekir was asked exactly why his proposed deal to Liverpool collapse ahead of the World Cup.

His response?

"Yes, the missed transfer to Liverpool is over. These are things that happen. It's like that. We must advance. It's ancient history,” Fekir said.

"I heard several things [about why the move to Liverpool failed]. The real reason is that they (Liverpool) only know it.”

How mysterious.

While Fekir is claiming he is over the failed move to the Premier League, Lyon manager Bruno Genesio admitted that his player is still recovering from the whole ordeal.

“It is never easy accepting this kind of situation, when you are very near to signing for a club where you want to go,” said the Lyon manager.

“Where you want to reach another level and to give a boost to your career. But as I said, it could have been worse for him. He is at Lyon, at a strong club, he is captain of a team who plays in the Champions League.

“This could be a very important season for Nabil. I haven’t seen any attitudes or signs that make me think he won’t live up to his role the way he did last year.”
