Barcelona's 1-0 win away at Real Valladolid on Saturday evening will not live long in the memory.

Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of a scrappy game which was pretty much ruined by the state of the pitch.

The grass was laid the day before the game and cut up instantly. By the end of play, it was torn to shreds.

Amazingly, all the players avoided any serious injury, despite a ridiculous amount of divots waiting to twist a knee or an ankle.

The fact that Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez all struggled to even dribble with the ball tells you all you need to know about the state of the pitch.

And Gerard Pique didn't hold back in his assessment of it, firing some serious shots at La Liga in the process.

The Spanish centre-back said to reporters on the pitch after the final-whistle: “This pitch is deplorable, it is shameful. I hope those in charge fix it, because it was lamentable.”

""They want to take games to the United States, but the first thing they need to do is worry about what is at home. The state of the pitch was shameful. Deplorable."

I'm sure a lot of players in Spain's top-flight will applaud Pique's bravery.

The issue of moving certain La Liga games to the US has sparked mass debate, with the 20 club captain set to refuse to commit to the plan.

For the sake of modern football, let's hope they succeed.

Barca's win in Valladolid also saw one of the most brutal VAR calls of all time.

The hosts - who have only just been promoted - thought they had snatched an injury-time equaliser and their first goal back in the top-flight.

But VAR eventually ruled the goal offside, despite Keko celebrating wildly and actually taking his shirt off.

You can watch the whole incident below.

A moment Keko will want to forget and a game Barca must be glad is over.
