Not long after his victory over Francesco Pianeta, it was confirmed that Tyson Fury would face WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, who earlier this week said Fury is the 'fight he always wanted'.

But Dan Rafael of ESPN has claimed he was told by one of Fury's management team that the Wilder-Fury heavyweight clash is now in doubt.

“The latest from Fury's team is that he is now apparently balking at the fight," he wrote, per The Sun. "I was told that yesterday by a member of his management team.

“All I know is what one the members of his management team told me that he thought he might need another fight first. Who knows what will happen?"

This seems to be news to Wilder though, who has denied that his fight against Fury is off.

Despite all of the hype generated last week, the fight is yet to be officially announced, but it’s been said to be taking place in November.

Not everyone has been convinced it will go ahead, with Eddie Hearn regularly issuing a word of caution until it is actually confirmed.

Nevertheless, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder remains confident it will go ahead because he thinks there’s too much money to be made and Fury would be humiliated if he backed out.

”Exactly, Fury will be fighting. He’s not changing his mind,” Wilder reportedly told Tha Boxing Voice.

”There’s too much money on the line for him and I. We’re going to make a fortune, but never mind that. The Gypsy King will be fighting or he will be humiliated by all, especially his people.”

After putting so much work in to publicise the rivalry, it would be another shame to not see the pair get a chance to settle the score.

And it will just add further weight to the argument that their antics in Belfast were little more than a publicity stunt.

Only time will tell whether we will actually see it happen or not.
