AJ Styles is in the middle of one of the most emotionally intense feuds in the WWE right now with Samoa Joe over the WWE Championship.Styles and Joe clashed at SummerSlam, but their encounter ended in a win via DQ for Joe after Styles attacked him with a chair for taunting his wife. Now, a rematch between The Phenomenal One and The Samoan Submission Machine has been booked for Hell in a Cell next month, and the feud seems destined for a Hell in a Cell match due to the intensity of it.While Styles will be fighting Joe again, there were plans in place for him to feud with another top superstar, but they didn't come to fruition.According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, WWE did have plans to do a storyline between Styles and Randy Orton. Meltzer was asked by a fan if there are any plans for The Viper to feud with The Phenomenal One for the WWE title in the near future, to which he said the following:

"That was a plan at one point but Orton got hurt, so they may get back to it. I think they'd gel great."

It's strange to think that two of the biggest stars in the WWE in Styles and Orton are yet to feud with each other over the WWE title despite now both being on SmackDown since the 2016 WWE Draft.

Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long in order to see it happen, but one would think the perfect time for WWE to give this feud their all would be around WrestleMania.

Styles vs Orton is certainly a match that has the capabilities of headlining a WrestleMania in the future, so WWE could hold off booking this feud until then in order to achieve the biggest payoff.

The Viper is currently involved in the United States Championship picture at the moment alongside Jeff Hardy and Shinsuke Nakamura, so he'll have to wrap up this feud first before facing The Phenomenal One.

Orton hasn't been heavily involved in the WWE Championship picture since he faced Jinder Mahal before SummerSlam last year.
