The Cleveland Browns quarterbacks have been under the microscope all offseason long.

Whether it be after they traded for Tyrod Taylor, after they drafted Baker Mayfield, or during the preseason on Hard Knocks, there have been many eyes on the Browns quarterback situation.

The big question has been who will be the starting quarterback for Cleveland come Week 1 of the 2018 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Browns head coach Hue Jackson revealed who was his starting quarterback and who was the backup.

He said: “I think that I already proved who [the backup quarterback] is. It’s Baker. Baker is there. We haven’t played a regular-season game yet, so we will see how that all unfolds. I feel good about the things that Baker went in and did in the game.”

After apparently realizing he hadn’t told Drew Stanton or the rest of the team yet who the backup was going to be, Jackson backtracked.

The Browns head coach said: “I pretty much have my mind made up on where that is. I haven’t set it officially so you guys can write it. I like to tell my team first before I make those decisions on what we’re doing. We will kind of go from there.”

So Taylor will be under center when the Browns play against their AFC North rivals in the Steelers come Week 1 of the new season on September 8, while Mayfield will be the backup.

However, Mayfield will get another chance to play for the Browns before the start of the new season when they play in their final preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.

Baker will only see the field for the Browns this season on one of two conditions, either Tyrod picks up an injury or if he has a string of bad performances.

Taylor has only missed two regular season games over the past two years and hasn't performed badly on the field either, so seeing Mayfield play in 2018 seems unlikely.

Then again, he is a former Heisman Trophy winner and many have tipped him to be a future star in the NFL. That talent can't be ignored for too long. Otherwise, Jackson might not see him star as the head coach of the team.
