For a driver who is often at the back of the grid, Lance Stroll gets his fair share of headlines.

The 19-year-old is once again on the news but not to do with his on-track exploits and more to do with his family ties.

Lance's' father Lawrence is a high profile businessman with a number of interests to his name -most notably the recent purchase of Force India in F1.

As a result, it is believed the takeover will see Frenchman Esteban Ocon lose his seat in favour of Stroll.

That has got a number of drivers talking with Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel feeling a great deal of sympathy for the 21-year-old, who qualified in third at the Belgium GP.

For his part, Lance Stroll feels that people should look more at his driving ability, not his bank balance.

"I’m not arguing that point, but my results and what I’ve done in the past should have been acknowledged a little bit more," he said Planet F1.

"It’s very harsh. Sometimes a footballer has more ability, potentially, than another.

“It just happens to be that one gets thrown in a shi**y club, and another with less ability gets a great pay cheque at a better club.

“I’m not disagreeing that the system isn’t entirely fair all the time.

"But I deserve more than just mention of the money that’s behind me. And it’s not entirely my father.

"Aside from him, I bring in partnerships with JCB, Canada Life, Bombardier. So, I think there’s a separation between my father and I, to a certain extent.”

To his credit, Stroll completely understands the frustration and disappointment that Ocon will be currently feeling and is prepared to feel the brunt of it.

He added: “From Esteban’s point of view, (the anger) is triggered towards me, because my father’s involvement in Force India.

"Drivers from certain backgrounds will have their view on how things should be but Drivers with financial backing will think otherwise.

"If (my father) takes me to Force India, that’s his choice, and I understand that for Esteban, that might not be great or fair.

“Potentially, my father buying this team can make it a much better team, much more competitive. It’s not, in my eyes, a big negative."

Stroll was adamant that more attention should be paid to his performances, but the cold hard facts are that he has only four points to his name in the 2018 driver standings courtesy of an eighth-place finish in the Azerbaijan GP.

His best performance since that race was 11th in the Spanish GP while he finished 13th at the Belgium GP on Sunday as Williams continue to struggle for any kind of pace.

Despite Ocon having one more retirement to his name in 2018, he has six top-ten finishes and has regularly shown he is a driver of serious promise.

While he may not have a seat for 2019, you can expect him to be snapped up rather quickly.

While for Stroll, the scrutiny will ratchet up to new levels and the pressure will certainly be on.
