Gareth Southgate has named his first England squad after the World Cup.The Three Lions memorably made the semi-final stage out in Russia and the manager has made very few changes to that 23-man squad.Nick Pope has dropped out through injury, replaced by Southampton's Alex McCarthy, with Luke Shaw earning a recall in place of Ashley Young.James Tarkowski also gets the nod for the injured Phil Jones, while Joe Gomez is back in the fold after Gary Cahill's international retirement. All understandable changes from Southgate, but his final alteration is really causing a stir on Twitter. With Jamie Vardy stepping aside from England duty, the boss has made a very dubious call in bringing back Liverpool's Adam Lallana. You can see Southgate's full squad below.

He's played just three minutes this season and injuries appear to have got the better of the 30-year-old now.

Is there much point in placing such faith in an injury-prone player who will be 32 by the time Euro 2020 rolls around? Probably not, especially one struggling for Premier League minutes.

And England fans on Twitter have an interesting message for Southgate, making it clear who they believe should be ahead of Lallana in the pecking order; Leicester's James Maddison.

ENGLAND FANS WANT MADDISON CALL-UP

When you think about it, their point is very valid. Maddison enjoyed a brilliant season with Norwich in 2017/18 and has looked the real deal so far at Leicester after his £25m move.

And the 21-year-old's playing style is just what England need. He's creative, with a great passing range - like Lallana - but is also capable of scoring more than his fair share of goals.

A lot of England fans also believe Bournemouth's Callum Wilson should have got the nod ahead of Danny Welbeck.

Jadon Sancho, Theo Walcott and Ben Chilwell also had pretty good claims to be included as well.
