The starting five ratings of the Warriors, Lakers, and Cavs on NBA 2K19

We’re just over a week away from the release of NBA 2K19 on September 7 and the one thing that fans will be looking for is how their team will be rated on this year’s edition of the game.

Three teams which fans may pay the most attention too, especially after what’s happened this summer, are the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Golden State Warriors.

LeBron James changed the fortune of both the Lakers and the Cavaliers this summer after he left the later for the former. As a result, both teams have seen major changes to their starting five.

As a response to LeBron’s arrival in the West, the Warriors signed DeMarcus Cousins to their already star-studded starting five, making them the team to beat.

These changes have reflected the rating which all three teams have received for their starting five this season.

Warriors’ projected starting five:

  • PG – Stephen Curry – 95
  • SG – Klay Thompson – 89
  • SF – Kevin Durant – 97
  • PF – Draymond Green – 87
  • C – DeMarcus Cousins – 90

It comes as no surprise that everyone at Golden State is around 90 or above, and it reflects why many people believe they could make it three titles in a row.

Cousins has made the Warriors into an even more unstoppable force than what they already were, but they won’t be able to make use of him until later this season when he returns from his injury.

Questions will be asked about Durant receiving a higher rating than Curry as well.

Lakers’ projected starting five:

  • PG – Rajon Rondo. – 79
  • SG – Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – 76
  • SF – LeBron James – 98
  • PF – Brandon Ingram – 82
  • C – JaVale McGee – 77

LeBron was always going to be the best player in this Lakers’ squad as he’s the best player in the league, but everyone else’s rating is interesting.

Luke Walton could play a completely different squad to the one shown as he discovers what is the best starting line up to play alongside James as we go through training camp and preseason.

It’s also worth noting that Rondo has been projected to start ahead of Lonzo Ball, which right now might seem logical for some, but the Lakers’ training camp might change that.

Cavs’ projected starting five:

  • PG – Collin Sexton – 76
  • SG – J.R. Smith – 75
  • SF – Cedi Osman – 75
  • PF – Kevin Love – 86
  • C – Tristan Thompson – 76

Life without James looks set to be very difficult for the Cavs, and they’re essentially a Love departure away from a rebuild. Still, the ratings might be a little bit harsh.

Then again, LeBron literally carried the team on his back last season to the NBA Finals. Sexton wasn’t a part of the Cavs then, but he’s now being dubbed as the new franchise player to build the team around.

His rating could, therefore, increase throughout the season as he gets used to life in the NBA.
