We're just days away from the start of the 2018 NFL season and Khalil Mack has still not reported at all during the preseason for the Oakland Raiders. Both the Raiders and Mack are still at a standoff, and it now seems more likely that they will trade him away to make sure they don't lose him for nothing next summer.Being a former Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time Pro Bowler, it's not surprising to hear that several teams are interested in the defensive end.According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Raiders have received “a bunch of calls in recent days” about Mack. However, according to reports, none of them are meeting the desired price evaluation for him set by the Raiders.Pelissero stated as well that “the price would be at least two first-round picks,” for the defensive end.
This is a huge price, even for a former Defensive Player of the Year, and the asking price pretty much shows that Oakland isn't really interested in trading away the player.
One of the teams that was reportedly interested in Mack was the New York Jets. While they do have first rounds in 2019 and 2020 they could offer the Raiders for Mack, this might be too steep of a price for them.
With Aaron Donald being on the verge of a deal with the Los Angeles Rams that could make him the league’s highest-paid defensive player, Mack will be wanting a contract very similar at the Raiders or wherever he goes in the NFL.
Soon though, the defensive end could start to lose a lot of money, as if he misses regular season games, he won't receive game checks of more than $814,000 per week.
It looks as though no progress is being made towards a conclusion of Mack's holdout via a new contract, but many Raiders fans will be hoping he's locked down once a market is set with Donald's new deal with the Rams.
