Safe to say Simon Mignolet wasn't very happy about Loris Karius sealing a move away from Liverpool this summer instead of him.

With Alisson's £66m arrival from AS Roma throwing both goalkeepers' futures into doubt, it was expected at least one of them would leave.

Karius ended up being the one shipped to Besiktas on a two-year loan deal, leaving Mignolet at Liverpool as second choice despite having options of his own to leave.

It means the Belgian will spend the vast majority of this season on the bench, but for games in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup should Klopp decide to rotate.

Being made to stay has frustrated Mignolet because he knows game time will now be harder to come by and because he was behind Karius in the pecking order.

"The transfer of Karius doesn't change anything for me," he said recently. "I have always been clear: I want to play.

"Being number two or number three makes little difference. Playing minutes is the most important thing.

MIGNOLET BEMOANS KARIUS MOVE

"Nobody has said anything to me after the departure of Loris, so I don't know what my future at Liverpool is. We will see what happens this week.

"I find it bizarre that Karius was loaned while I also had options to be loaned. But for some reason that was not possible.

"A goalkeeper who was preferred to me last year may leave on a loan basis. Strange."

Mignolet's comments were always going to make their way to Klopp and now the German has reacted with a clear message to his unhappy goalkeeper.

Klopp has slammed the Belgium international for making his problems public instead of speaking to him, also pointing out that he's earning good money at Liverpool.

"Discussing your individual problems in public doesn't make too much sense," he responded. "It was still okay. If he was happy to be a No.2 then I wouldn't know him - he's a top professional.

"If you want to say something, say it to me directly than to a newspaper. He's on pretty good pay at Liverpool by the way."

Mignolet can probably expect a talking to next time he sees Klopp at Liverpool's Melwood training ground, because like the Liverpool manager said, he should have spoken to him first.
