The halfway stage of the 2018 Formula One season has well-and-truly gone, and there is a clear two-horse race for the Drivers' Championship. And it's the two usual suspects who are fighting it out, both vying for their fifth world championship trophy.Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton currently leads the way on 231 points, and trailing him by 17 points is Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, who was crowned the victor at Spa last time out.The pair both have five victories to their resume this campaign, with Daniel Ricciardo the winner of the other two races. There's set to be a titanic tussle between the duo, and it could even go down to the wire at Abu Dhabi. The drivers and famous figures have rolled into Italy for the weekend, as the historic Monza racecourse will host F1's next race. The newly-founded Racing Point Force India team made their debut at Spa last weekend, and it was a relatively successful start as Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon finished fifth and sixth respectively.Perez recorded the fastest time in the first practice session at Monza today, but for Swedish driver Marcus Ericsson, the second session was a disaster. As footage from multiple angles shows, Ericsson's car travelled at high-speed towards the first turn of the Monza circuit, but in an instance took a violent turn to the left. This forced a collision with the barriers, which in-turn saw the Sauber vehicle somersault down the track before landing as normal. You can watch the footage below to see the the costly damage it's left on Ericsson's vehicle.

The problem has been suspected as a faulty DRS wing, which did not close as Ericsson slammed on the brakes before the first turn.

It just proves the huge risks and danger that comes with driving such high-powered cars, and thankfully Ericsson came out of the incident unscathed.
