Manchester United and Juventus will lock horns in the Champions League this season.

It represents a very difficult draw for the Red Devils, but many supporters couldn't help smiling afterwards because it marked a rare opportunity for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford.

United fans saw Ronaldo transform from a young prospect into the world beater he is now in front of their very eyes and have treasured him ever since his 2009 departure.

The 33-year-old spent nine years at Real Madrid, essentially breaking every record under the sun, and made a return to United during Sir Alex Ferguson's final season.

He scored the winning goal at the 'Theatre of Dreams' in a Champions League round of 16 tie as Real left 2-1 victors and Ronaldo accepted a roaring reception.

Ronaldo and Mourinho worked together in Spain

Now this season will represent a new homecoming, only Ronaldo will be wearing the colours of Juventus as he seeks European success at a third different club.

However, he won't be greeting the fatherlike figure that is Ferguson upon his arrival, rather his former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

It would be fair to say that Ronaldo didn't exactly enjoy the same relationship with Mourinho as he did with Ferguson.

Mourinho's opinion of Ronaldo now

Mourinho's final season at the Bernabeu was marred by reported fall-outs with the players and that included Ronaldo.

As a result, there have always been questions over the pair's relationship and it begs the question: will they be on good terms when they meet this season?

Well, The Sun have shed some light on that quandary as part of a feature article on the upcoming United vs Juventus fixture, noting how Ronaldo could pile more misery on Mourinho.

Within the article, its sensationally noted: "The Special One cannot stand Ronaldo, blaming his dressing room influence at Real Madrid as one of the reasons behind his ignominious exit.

"Mourinho criticised Ronaldo for being one of the superstars who would spend time “looking in the mirror in the tunnel” before matches."

So five years on and it seems Mourinho hasn't repaired his relationship with Ronaldo.

It's pretty incredible that the Untied boss still has a problem with his former player and despite praising him during his role as a World Cup pundit.

As a result, people shouldn't expect some kind of fairytale reunion between the two, even if supporters give Ronaldo a rousing reception themselves.

Ronaldo remains a legendary figure at the club and with good reason, winning the Champions League title and Ballon d'Or during his time in England.

They'll be very excited to see him play in front of the Old Trafford crowd once again but, this time around, perhaps with a little less success.
