It’s easy to forget that Manchester United actually made three signings this summer.Of course, Fred was the only high-profile purchase, arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk for £52 million. Then there's 35-year-old goalkeeper Lee Grant, who is likely to be United’s third-choice this season. But the Red Devils also snapped up 19-year-old Diogo Dalot from Porto for £19 million. The youngster arrived at Old Trafford already injured - although the full-back may have found it difficult to dislodge Antonio Valencia at right-back.However, with Valencia now 33-years-old, there are many United fans who believe the Ecuadorian’s time at the Theatre of Dreams is coming to an end.Is Dalot the man to do that either this season or next?Well, fans - and Jose Mourinho - got the chance to see Dalot in action for the first time on Friday night.

Mourinho was in the stands at Old Trafford as Dalot lined up for United Under-23’s in a clash against Stoke Under-23’s.

Dalot played 77 minutes during United's 1-0 victory, thanks to Angel Gomes' strike.

We don’t quite know what Mourinho thought of his summer signing but we know exactly what United fans thought of him.

On social media, there was quite a reaction to Dalot’s performance - and they were all making the same point about him.

Fans were all impressed with Dalot’s crossing ability - something they believe Valencia lacks.

MAN UTD FANS WERE LOVING DALOT'S CROSSING ABILITY

Just check out the reaction from many supporters:

It speaks volumes that Mourinho wanted to sign Dalot despite his minor knee injury - and the Portuguese boss explained exactly why he did.

“Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club,” Mourinho said in the summer.

“He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.

“In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United.”
