Things aren't going smoothly for Jose Mourinho right now - but it isn't the first time that's happened.

Still, 14 years since he first arrived in the Premier League, the Manchester United boss is still managing to surprise with some of the things he says and does.

Most recently he labelled himself 'one of the world's greatest managers' and was demanding respect from journalists at the weekend before he stormed out of a press conference.

The latter was sparked by a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur that heaped on more pressure - pressure that had built rapidly after the 3-2 loss at Brighton the week before.

But yes, he's been under pressure before - plenty of times, in fact - although the big problem for United is that he never actually comes out of it with a job.

Mourinho has left jobs at Chelsea (twice) and Real Madrid after things turned against him, all three times just a year after winning the league.

The most recent exit was in 2015, a year he romped to the Premier League title before being sacked by Christmas.

And a look at that dismissal brings about further alarm bells for United as they'll notice quite a few similar problems.

His final game was a 2-1 defeat away at eventual champions Leicester City and the starting eleven that day does look a bit familiar.

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois

There's certainly no complaints with Courtois in goal - he's arguably been the best in the league alongside David De Gea over the last few years.

Right back: Branislav Ivanovic

The Serbian was a brilliant servant for Chelsea but was coming to the end of his time there at 31 years old. Antonio Conte moved him on midway through his first season.

Centre-back: Kurt Zouma

Zouma was an up-and-coming talent at Chelsea and played regularly that season until his bad injury in February. Still, he wasn't the rock at the back that Mourinho needed that year when things were going badly - he was still learning, after all.

Centre-back: John Terry

Arguably the club's most legendary player but one who was firmly on his way out by 2015 having just turned 35. Terry struggled quite badly that season and was only just offered a new contract for a final year.

Left-back: Cesar Azpilicueta

Certainly no complaints here - one of the best defenders in the league.

Defensive midfield: Nemanja Matic

The most familiar of the lot to United fans but Matic has a very poor season in 15-16. His poor season was one of the reasons many were surprised to see Mourinho re-sign him at Old Trafford.

Defensive midfield: Ramires

Ramires was not having a good year by any means and Mourinho's dismissal saw him gone. He moved to China in January 2016.

Right midfield: Willian

Chelsea's Player of the Year that season, Willian was one of the few to really shine.

Attacking midfield: Oscar

Oscar had a very poor season, too, and after struggling to get into Conte's team, he also moved to China in 2016.

Left midfield: Eden Hazard

A brilliant player who undoubtedly had the worst year of his career that season. Bounced back immediately afterwards under Conte.

Striker: Diego Costa

Costa had scored 20 times the previous season but struggled to score at all before Mourinho was sacked. He was petulant, poor, and a symbol of the unhappiness at the club.

United fans will probably notice the themes here: A defence that is in desperate need of a refresh, persistence with players who simply aren't performing, stars looking nothing like their best, and players acting out.

It didn't end well for Chelsea - we'll see if Mourinho has learned his lessons this time.
