In this day and age, it's very hard for the WWE to execute a firing angle on television.

Of course, with all the dirt sheets and online reports, it's quite easy for fans to figure out how much truth there is to any such storyline.

In kayfabe, the stars remain gone from television for a while and it's often a way to write them off. The latest man to attempt to make this type of angle work is Kevin Owens.

The Canadian had a stellar match with Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental title on the latest edition of Raw, but after losing the bout, he cut a promo where he told his compatriots that he quit.

Owens has had a hard run as of late. After spending months taking crazy bumps opposite Braun Strowman and losing his best friend Sami Zayn to injury, it's been a spectacular fall from grace for the former Universal champion.

The WWE will be heading to Australia for their Super Showdown on October 6 and Owens is sheduled to team with Elias against John Cena and Bobby Lashley, but a new article from the WWE suggests he might not be there.

WWE.com wrote: "Cena teams with Lashley to go head-to-head against KO and Elias at the monumental event on Saturday, Oct. 6, marking the first time that these four Superstars have collectively shared the ring. While Cena and Owens look to reignite their storied rivalry, which culminated in a thrilling three-match series in 2015, Lashley and Elias no doubt have some unfinished business of their own, but how will these teams perform as a unit?

"Cena and Lashley share a history as alumni of the Ruthless Aggression Era and are former Survivor Series teammates – they defeated five other Superstars in a Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Elimination Match back in 2006. With Lashley bent on taking care of 'unfinished business,' can he and Cena pick up where they left off?

"As for Owens and Elias, KO revealed on the Aug. 27 edition of Raw that he 'quits,' so it remains unknown at this time how that unexpected revelation will affect this scheduled match. Will Elias need to find a replacement?"

Owens was absent from the show at the O2 in London for the Raw brand this week and he has not been seen in Japan or China, either.

It's almost certainly just an extended break for KO, but whether that break will extend all the way to October is up for debate, but surely it is unlikely. WWE rarely fail to deliver on advertised matches.
