Maurizio Sarri continued his perfect start to the season as Chelsea earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.A fascinating match of a game was finally carved open by Pedro in the 72nd minute, the Spaniard scoring his third goal in four games. The effervescent Eden Hazard made the three points secure five minutes from time.In return, Callum Wilson looked threatening for the Cherries but the Blues' defence held firm. That was in spite of some sloppy defending from David Luiz, whose misplaced pass almost led to a goal. The centre-back also switched off completely for a Bournemouth cross that nearly handed Eddie Howe's men the lead in the first half.As is so often the case with the eccentric Brazilian, he passed it about well and created a handful of openings with his trademark long balls.Yet, it seems that there is a growing consensus that any day now, his lack of composure could cost his side dearly again.

Chelsea fans were baffled

Sarri's decision to start the former PSG defender seemed all the more peculiar with the promising Andreas Christensen on the bench, as many Chelsea fans were discussing on social media:

Willian also came under fire in some quarters for his lacklustre performance.

It always looked as though Chelsea would make a breakthrough in the end, but it didn't look as though the 30-year-old would necessarily be involved; indeed, it was his substitution for Pedro that brought the opener.

It's that defensive conundrum that Sarri will no doubt be mulling over, come Saturday night, though - is Luiz's time up, or is he worth persevering with when he puts in such big performances when it matters?

Christensen had begun to make headway at Chelsea last season, with Antonio Conte handing him 23 starts in the Premier League.

A lot of fans would give a penny for his thoughts as the Dane sat on the bench watching on.

Should Christensen start ahead of Luiz? Have your say in the comments.
