Thursday night was a big one for Real Madrid as players from their squad were recognised for an incredible third consecutive Champions League triumph. The Spanish side beat Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev back in May to win the competition once more, and there were awards for three players as well as Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese icon, now at Juventus, won the 2017-18 UEFA Forward of the Season award but was pipped to the Best Player prize by Luka Modric. The Croatian maestro was also named as the best midfielder, with Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas picking up the defender and goalkeeper awards respectively. However, football fans felt pretty sorry for the Madrid 'keeper after seeing what he was forced to do before Real's La Liga clash with Leganes on Saturday.

What Navas did before Leganes match

Los Blancos have made a good start under new manager Julen Lopetegui in the league, beating Getafe 2-0 and Girona 4-1 last weekend.

Ahead of the visit of Leganes, the club's three award-winners; Navas, Ramos and Modric, were honoured by the crowd inside the Bernabeu.

As you'll be able to see further down the page, Navas was the first to walk out with his UEFA award and he received a wonderful ovation from the crowd.

After captain Ramos and star man Modric did the same, the Costa Rican then had to put on a brave smile for a group picture.

People on Twitter who saw the video are feeling bad for Navas because, unlike Ramos and Modric, he had to go and sit on the bench after the proceedings.

Thibaut Courtois, who joined from Chelsea on deadline day, was handed his first start for Madrid and replaced Navas in between the sticks.

Football fans react to Navas' treatment

Some football fans are labelling Real disrespectful for their treatment of Navas, who they feel should've played on after what's been a special week for him.

It's been a slow start for Modric this campaign, given his World Cup exploits, yet he was back in the starting XI in place of Isco against Leganes following his UEFA award wins.

Navas was outstanding in Real's win at Girona, yet it seems likely now that the 31-year-old will struggle for regular game time due to Courtois' arrival.

The underrated shot-stopper will be hoping to be involved after the international break when Madrid travel to Athletic Bilbao before hosting Roma.
