Kimi Raikkonen has been wowing the fanatical Ferrari crowd in Monza this weekend, with a stunning lap in qualifying to take pole ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel.

However, if reports are to be believed from Auto Motor und Sport, this could be the last time he is seen in Ferrari colours at their home track.

Reports earlier in the summer have seemed to suggest that former Ferrari supremo Sergio Marchionne has committed Ferrari to having young Charles Leclerc join them as their second driver alongside Vettel.

It appears the legacy deal from Marchionne era is still binding, leaving Raikkonen still wondering where he will be driving next season.

This presents a very awkward scenario for Ferrari, especially given that Leclerc is managed by the son of former Ferrari boss Jean Todt, who is now president of the FIA.

Ferrari have shown further signs of promise this season, with Vettel fighting Lewis Hamilton for the championship and pushing Mercedes extremely close for the Constructors' Championship.

Ditching Raikkonen at the end of the year would not only possibly alienate fans of the team, but also jeopardise the strides made this season under the experienced driving duo.

The boss of Ferrari Louis Camilleri hasn’t done anything to stop the speculation, merely stating that ‘no timeframe’ has been placed on the decision thus far when speaking to the media on Friday.

Raikkonen himself has expressed his desire to stay with the Scuderia, but has conceded that the decision is out of his hands.

When quizzed, he stated: “You need to talk to the team. It’s not up to me. It’s not my decision in the end."

Ferrari may yet be able to play the card of convincing Leclerc to stay at Sauber for at least another season and avoid the looming headache for the team.

Rather than the pressure cooker of taking the Ferrari second seat, the team might encourage Leclerc to get another year’s racing experience under his belt before joining the Marinello outfit.

As part of their engine deal with the Swiss team and the multi-year commercial arrangement with Alfa Romeo, Ferrari are entitled to make the first pick of the Sauber line-up next year.

This means both teams are unlikely to know their 2019 teams for a few weeks yet, leaving both Raikkonen and Leclerc facing uncertain futures.
