Portsmouth will again be without Richard Hughes for the visit of Bristol City.
The Scotland international serves the second game of a two-match suspension for his sending-off in the Carling Cup defeat to Leicester last week.
Fellow midfielder Hayden Mullins will be checked over after hobbling out of Friday night's spectacular 6-1 win over the Foxes.
Assuming Mullins is available, boss Steve Cotterill is likely to name the same starting line-up which secured Pompey's first league victory of the season.
Defender Hermann Hreidarsson (Achilles), frontman Danny Webber (cruciate), Tom Kilbey (knee) and Billy Goddard (shin) are still on the sidelines.
Pompey will leapfrog City in the table if they can secure back-to-back wins.
David James will face his former club at Fratton Park.
The ex-England goalkeeper spent four years at the south coast club before leaving in the summer to join Championship rivals City.
Ahead of his return, James told the club`s official website: "My time at Portsmouth was unbelievable in just about every department, from the FA Cup win to the financial matters.
"I still hold them close to my heart and it will be nice to go back in some respects, but my focus is on the game and we need a win."
City sustained no new problems in drawing 0-0 at Burnley on Saturday. However, one change to the squad will see the addition of defender Steven Caulker following his arrival on loan from Tottenham.
