On Saturday, it was announced that Khalil Mack had made a blockbuster move from the Oakland Raiders - joining the Chicago Bears. The trade came following the outside linebacker's decision to hold out for the entirety of preseason - but just days before things kickoff in 2018, he has his move. And with it, a massive contract.

A NEW DEAL

Mack has signed a six-year deal worth $141 million - with $90 million of that guaranteed, making him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history.

Although the Bears are paying out a massive amount to their new star, they were probably more than happy to do so after getting such a ridiculous trade from the Raiders.

Chicago have only sacrificed first-round picks in the 2019 and 2020 drafts - and in return, have received a three-time Pro Bowler, as well as a second-round pick in the 2020 draft.

It's a crazy deal - one that has left many fans questioning what on earth happened in Oakland.

LOOKING FOR A PAYDAY

Of course, Raiders fans are absolutely devastated after losing a former NFL Defensive Player of the Year - but Mack was just chasing his payday.

Unfortunately for his former team, when they couldn't pay, the Bears pounced. Now the dust has settled, the man himself has reacted to his big move.

It's well-known that the OL was not happy with head coach Jon Gruden and the Raiders organisation - but he will clearly miss the fanbase that has supported him for many years.

A HEARTFELT THANKS

On Monday, Mack took to Twitter to release a statement to his fans - and it was a pretty emotional one.

"Raider Nation the love you’ve shown my family and I for the past 4 years has been amazing we loved every minute of it!" he wrote on social media.

"Unfortunately it has come to an end but I will cherish my time in Oakland forever and will forever have love for the Nation!"

That's a nice touch from Mack, and one that should soften the blow of him leaving for many fans.

It's just a shame that his influence and ability on the pitch wasn't rewarded by his former team during the offseason.

MOVING ON

Now though, the 27-year-old has to prove that he's worth a massive deal, by helping turn a struggling Bears side around. The franchise finished 2017 with a 5-11 record.

But the offseason has been full of promise and if Mack is lining up in week 1 against the Green Bay Packers, they might stand a chance of starting strong against one of the NFL's top teams.
