There was a time when James Rodriguez was the most talked about footballer on the planet.

Colombia's talisman burst onto the scene at the 2014 World Cup, scoring in every game as they were eliminated by Brazil in the quarter-final.

Rodriguez's volley against Uruguay in the last-16 won the FIFA Puskas award that year.

His performances earned him a big money move from Monaco to Real Madrid, but things never really worked out for him in the Spanish capital.

He was pretty darn good when given game time, but the wealth of talent at the club meant he was often on the bench.

Last summer, he joined Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal and excelled in the Bundesliga.

Real Madrid fans wanted him back from his loan early this summer, but he stayed on in Germany and is already turning on the style.

Bayern have got their title defence off to a cracking start, beating Hoffenheim 3-1 on the opening weekend and Stuttgart 3-0 on Saturday.

And Rodriguez was on hand to produce a true moment of magic on the weekend, a pass that few player in the world could complete.

How this hasn't gone viral is a mystery.

Absolutely beautiful.

The way Rodriguez hits the ball so nonchalantly just sums up his quality.

After Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Real Madrid, Los Blancos may consider bringing the Colombian back into the fold after his loan spell.

The club are knowingly keen on making a marquee signing next summer, with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Eden Hazard three potential candidates.

But if they can't convince Paris Saint-Germain or Chelsea to sell, surely bringing Rodriguez back would be a no-brainer?

Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are both getting on in years and Rodriguez would be an ideal option to allow the two midfielders to be rotated.

The Colombian can also deputise across the forward line.
