Celtic got the better of Rangers in the first Old Firm derby of the season on Sunday.Brendan Rodgers' men took the lead through Olivier Ntcham midway through the second half and they held on to clinch a satisfying victory. As always with Old Firm derbies, there was no shortage of controversy. One such incident which has become a talking point was Allan McGregor's needless kick out at Kristoffer Ajer in the first half.Although minimal contact was made, it was still a silly thing to do from the Scottish goalkeeper and he was lucky to escape a red card at the time. You can view the incident here:

Steven Gerrard even noted after the game that the incident was 'blatant' and insisted he would speak to McGregor about it.

Asked if he would have complained if he was sent off, Gerrard said: “No. I wouldn’t," he said. "He’s lashed out. Of course I will speak to him about it.

“Look, I’m honest, I’ll tell you what I see. I’m not going to sit here and do otherwise.

“If something’s blatant, it’s blatant. But we’ve had one we should have got there.”

Many believed that McGregor would face retrospective action from the SFA, with the goalkeeper in serious threat of being suspended for a few of Rangers' upcoming games.

But that was not the case. News broke earlier on Tuesday revealing that he would not be punished.

That decision baffled many, including former Celtic player Chris Sutton.

Sutton reacted to the news by tweeting his astonishment.

And Sutton then sent a perfect tweet in reaction to the SFA's decision.

After a fan suggested the SFA were allowing players free reign to kick opponents off the ball, Sutton replied: "The SFA have nowhere to go with this. Basically advocating players to kick out when they like....

"What sort of example does it send out to young footballers around the country??? This is appalling...."

As Sutton says, it is appalling that McGregor got away with it.

Even Gerrard, McGregor's manager, has admitted that the goalkeeper was in the wrong.

The 36-year-old is a lucky boy indeed.
