It's been a pretty disastrous start to Manuel Pellegrini's reign at West Ham.There was plenty of excitement among West Ham supporters after the Chilean coach replaced David Moyes this summer.Pellegrini famously guided Manchester City to the Premier League title in 2014.But, despite spending over £100m on new signings, the Hammers lie rock bottom of the table after losing each of their opening four fixtures. After losing 1-0 at home to Wolves on Saturday, Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer branded West Ham "hopeless and pathetic.""You would think, coming into this game on the back of three defeats, at home, in front of your fans, you'd think a bit of fight, roll your sleeves up, show the fans you mean business," said Shearer."Whatever you want to say, whether it was embarrassing, hopeless, pathetic - use any of those words, you can pick any of them, and that would describe West Ham's performance.

"Walking. Jogging. No intensity, whatsoever. If you perform like this, you're going to get nowhere."

There was so much positivity before the season began but, as usual, it has quickly turned sour at the Olympic Stadium.

The Times have now revealed that West Ham didn't include a termination clause in Pellegrini's contract so it will cost them £15m if they decide to sack him.

And, with only four of his players away on international duty, the 64-year-old coach decided to fly to his native Chile after the defeat to Wolves.

Instead of working with his players on the training pitch, Pellegrini allowed his struggling stars a few days off. They are reportedly due back at training on Thursday.

He's one of the best paid managers in the Premier League and there was a mixed reaction among West Ham fans on Twitter.

There were some fans defending Pellegrini because 'family comes first'.

However, celebrity West Ham fan James Corden reacted badly to Pellegrini's decision to fly home after the dismal 1-0 defeat.

But one West Ham fan was quick to defend Pellegrini on the social network.

West Ham may struggle to climb out of the relegation zone in the coming weeks.

They face Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United in their next three Premier League outings.
