New Rangers manager Steven Gerrard enjoyed an incredibly busy summer in the transfer market.

Celtic have dominated Scottish football in recent years and the former Liverpool midfielder is hoping to guide Rangers to their first piece of silverware since 2011.

Gerrard has conducted a full-scale overhaul in Glasgow, signing 15 new players.

Plenty of his new signings were put to the test in his first Old Firm game on Sunday away at Celtic Park.

But the Hoops ran out deserved 1-0 winners, with an Olivier Ntcham's second-half strike the difference.

It was Rangers' first defeat under their new manager.

Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist has labelled two of Gerrard's summer signings as "lucky" to be at Ibrox.

“Listen, a lot of the boys had decisions to make, not easy decisions but I can tell you right now I know McGregor was torn, 100 % he was torn," said McCoist, as per the Scottish Sun.

“The thing about McGregor now is he’ll be rubbing his hands and thinking he’s the luckiest man in the world, as will Lafferty — they’re two lucky, lucky players to be back at the club where they had a lot of success.

“I think the two boys will appreciate it and they will make the most of every opportunity they have now.”

McCoist is right - although Rangers fans will probably feel "lucky" that McGregor and Lafferty are back at the club.

They both left Rangers in 2012 and are arguably two of Gerrard's most important signings.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper returned on a free transfer and has quickly established himself as an integral member of the squad.

Lafferty, a prolific goalscorer, signed from Hearts in August and bagged a brace against Motherwell on his second debut for Rangers.

However, Gers currently lie seventh in the table after four fixtures.

Celtic already have a four-point lead over their arch rivals but Brendan Rodgers' side trail Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
