Preston claim impressive comeback

Jon Parkin struck a hat-trick as lowly Preston completed a remarkable comeback from three goals down to beat Leeds 6-4 in an enthralling npower Championship match at Elland Road.

Darren Ferguson's side, who began the evening in the relegation zone, had taken an early lead through Parkin but Leeds raced 4-1 ahead before half-time thanks to goals from Luciano Becchio, Alex Bruce and a Davide Somma double.

Preston's unlikely turnaround began just a minute later, however, with Parkin getting his second before Leeds completely capitulated in the face of the visitors' revival.

Keith Treacy and a Callum Davidson penalty brought Preston level before the hour mark and amazingly they were ahead with 64 minutes played when Parkin completed his treble.

Iain Hume then sealed Preston's second successive away win 11 minutes from time.

Burnley were also impressive winners as they thrashed Hull 4-0 in a battle of two teams relegated from the Barclays Premier League last season. Chris Iwelumo and Chris Eagles both scored twice to lift the Clarets into the top six.

Top two QPR and Cardiff were both held to goalless home draws against Millwall and Crystal Palace respectively.

That allowed third-placed Norwich to make ground at the top as they won 4-3 against 10-man Leicester.

Martyn Waghorn fired the Foxes, bottom of the division, ahead after two minutes before goals from Andrew Crofts, Wes Hoolahan and Adam Dury gave the Canaries a two-goal advantage.

That would prove crucial as Matty Fryatt struck twice late on - before being sent off - either side of a second Hoolahan strike.
