Newly-promoted Rochdale continued their impressive start to life in npower League One with a 3-0 win over Huddersfield at Spotland.

Dale led through Jason Kennedy after seven minutes before late goals from Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Chris O'Grady capped a win that moved them up to fourth and dropped Huddersfield, who were top a week ago, out of the top six.

Brighton stayed three points clear at the summit after Kazenga LuaLua's 77th-minute strike was enough to see off bottom club Brentford 1-0.

Another promoted team, Bournemouth, are second after they thrashed south-coast rivals Exeter 3-0. Michael Symes scored twice either side of Marc Pugh's goal.

Carlisle also enjoyed a comfortable evening as they moved third with a 4-0 win at Hartlepool. Striker Gary Madine scored a hat-trick after Lubomir Michalik's opener.

Peterborough dropped to fifth in the table after they lost 3-2 at home to Notts County. Ben Davies fired County 2-0 ahead and, while Gabriel Zakuani replied, Craig Westcarr made it 3-1 just before the break. Craig Mackail-Smith pulled a goal back for Posh on the hour mark but Grant McCann's dismissal soon after ended their hopes of a comeback. Ricky Ravenhill also saw red late on.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the second of his double in injury time to give Plymouth a 3-2 win at Swindon.

Reda Johnson and Wright-Phillips both scored inside the opening eight minutes but Swindon fought back through goals from David Prutton and Michael Rose. Both sides were reduced to 10 men as goalscorers Prutton and Johnson were sent off before Wright-Phillips' late winner.

Dale Jennings scored the only goal of the game as Tranmere moved out of the drop zone with victory at Bristol Rovers, while Charlton also won 1-0 at home to MK Dons. Colchester were held to a 2-2 draw by lowly Dagenham & Redbridge while Yeovil and Southampton's match at Huish Park finished level on 1-1.

There were goalless draws in the remaining two matches, with Sheffield Wednesday's struggles continuing at home to Oldham while Walsall and Leyton Orient also failed to net.
