Gary Roberts scored the only goal of the game as Port Vale won their npower League Two top-of-the-table clash with Shrewsbury.

Roberts netted 17 minutes from full-time to move Micky Adams' side four points clear at the top.

Chesterfield are now their closest rivals after the Spireites won 2-1 at Northampton. Dean Morgan and Craig Davies both scored in five second-half minutes as they recovered from falling behind to Kevin Thornton's opener.

Rotherham are behind Chesterfield on goal difference, after they were held to a goalless home draw with Bradford, while Shrewsbury dropped to fourth.

Steven Schumacher's double helped Bury up to fifth with a 4-1 win at Morecambe. Mike Jones and Andy Haworth were also on target for the Shakers while Stewart Drummond scored Morecambe's only goal.

Hereford and Barnet remain the bottom two after they both conceded four goals in heavy defeats. Chris Holroyd scored a hat-trick as bottom-placed Hereford were thrashed 4-1 by newly-promoted Stevenage. Barnet were beaten 4-2 at Wycombe with Andy Sandell netting twice.

Marvin Morgan scored four minutes from full-time to hand Aldershot a 1-0 win at Torquay.

Stockport scored twice in the final 12 minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw with Accrington. Tom Fisher and George Donnelly got the goals to cancel out strikes from Andrew Procter and Terry Gornell.

Cheltenham and Oxford drew 1-1 while Macclesfield's trip to Crewe returned the same result.

There were goalless draw between Gillingham and Southend as well as Lincoln and Burton.
