It hasn't taken long for the optimism surrounding Manuel Pellegrini's appointment at West Ham to disappear. As Jose Mourinho was so keen to point out recently, just three current Premier League managers have won the title, with the Chilean being one of them. However, since replacing David Moyes, the former Manchester City boss has lost all four of his opening league games. Two of those understandably came against Liverpool and Arsenal, but more worryingly, Bournemouth and Wolves both left the London Stadium with three points.Pellegrini came in for criticism after it emerged that he had travelled to his homeland in the wake of the recent 1-0 defeat to Nuno's newly-promoted side. The players must take their share of the blame too, with only Marko Arnautovic scoring from open play. The Austrian also netted a penalty on the opening day against the Cherries.Against Wolves, just three of their 13 shots fell on target. Incredibly, though, in light of those rather damning statistics, the club are now asking their supporters to vote for Goal of the Month.

Full marks for creativity here - the Hammers' social media channels have drawn on Issa Diop's strike in the Carabao Cup win over AFC Wimbledon, Arnautovic's strike against Arsenal, topped up with goals from the under-23s and ladies' teams.

West Ham fans aren't happy

West Ham fans will not need reminding that they currently have the joint-lowest goal tally in the league alongside Huddersfield and Cardiff.

No sooner had the campaign begun than it was obvious that there were defensive problems - they were comprehensively blitzed at Anfield - but it's becoming increasingly apparent they haven't fixed their problems at the other end of the pitch either.

It hasn't been an easy couple of years for the Hammers' faithful, who have had to endure waving goodbye to Upton Park, teething problems at the new ground, and three managers in under a year.

A reasonable £99million was spent in the summer bringing in the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Diop, and Felipe Anderson.

So far, none of it has really paid off and the Pellegrini era is yet to get up and running.

There is little let-up in the fixture list after the international break either, with Everton, Chelsea, and Manchester United next on the agenda.
