David Beckham’s aspirations of owning a Major League Soccer team took a huge stride forward this week, following the release of the name and badge of his team.

Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, or Inter Miami CF for short, now faces an even bigger step with images of a planned stadium complex in the heart of Miami being released.

The stadium would replace the city-owned golf course Melreese Country Club, with managing owner Jorge Mas tweeting an aerial image of the potential complex earlier this week, underneath the caption “#Miami I proudly give you a teaser”.

The image shows the proposed 25,000 capacity stadium that Beckham’s Inter Miami CF would call home, but also many other areas and activities around it, that could be used and enjoyed by the population of Miami.

A YouTube video depicting and explaining the ‘Freedom Park’ complex as a whole was released on Inter Miami CF’s official page yesterday, giving details on the many uses of the site.

“This won’t just be a soccer stadium, it’ll be one of the biggest green spaces in greater Miami,” the video claims.

“One hundred and sixty acres of open access recreation space, 110 acres of green space, 70 acres of sports and entertainment facilities, baseball fields, children’s waterpark.”

Similar to everything else the MLS hopefuls have put out to the public thus far, the video stresses the importance of unity and inclusiveness, something that they believe the stadium complex will bring.

“It’ll create family spaces for everyone to enjoy, free to use and available to all, no matter your age or where you come from.”

Beckham and co. still have a long way to go before any of this becomes a reality, however.

In less than a week’s time they will ask commissioners of Miami to allow the people to decide whether they would like to lease public land to Inter Miami CF, in a referendum in November.

The argument in regards to numbers seems compelling.

“It’s $1 billion invested in the city,” according to the YouTube video, with the owners paying between $4-5 million in rent, while generating over $40 million in annual tax revenue for the city of Miami through.

“The creation of over 11,000 new jobs in the next three years and more than 2,300 permanent jobs."

The attention will now turn to the commissioners’ meeting in less than a week’s time, where they will decide whether to allow a referendum in November.

If Beckham can overcome this next hurdle, Inter Miami CF moves one step closer to the big time.
