Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe remains impressed with his side's "energy and determination" after a 3-0 home win over Exeter.

Michael Symes struck in the second minute and Marc Pugh put the Cherries two up late in the first period before Symes converted a second-half penalty after Troy Archibald-Henville had brought down Josh McQuoid.

Howe said: "Michael Symes has had his injury problems since he joined us, but when he has played he has been a real threat. His first goal was an excellent finish, but the whole team showed great energy and determination."

He added: "It was a massive game for us against a good side. We have beaten Carlisle and Exeter in the last few days and we are playing with plenty of confidence.

"I was impressed by Exeter. All credit to their manager who has set them up so well. They made it difficult for us and to get such a good win was important because we know how good they can be.

"If you play us, you know you have been in a game. Our energy and work rate are first class. I'm pleasantly surprised how well we are doing in this division after being promoted, but there's a long way to go, and you have to be consistent over a whole season.''
