David Beckham gave the biggest update on his Major League Soccer club yet this week.

After years of speculation about the project, Beckham revealed that his franchise would be called: 'Club Internacional de Futbol Miami,' and the new badge was released in tandem.

Known as 'Inter Miami' for short, the club will make its MLS debut in 2020 after being handed a contract extension back in January.

Beckham is still waiting on a new stadium for the club and needs to set up a plan for the next two years, but this week has undoubtedly been a major step in the process.

Speaking about the news, Beckham told the press: "Club Internacional de Futbol Miami is a name that celebrates the incredible energy of one of the most exciting cities in the world -- one that is diverse, passionate and ambitious -- a city that has welcomed me and so many others, so warmly.

Beckham unveils Inter Miami

"Our club will be a home for all -- no matter where you are from or how you got here. This is just the beginning of our journey as we continue to build towards our first game in 2020.

"We are extremely excited to offer the team's identity to Miami and the world.

"This team will thrive on the principles of solidarity, passion, innovation, tenacity and inclusivity and embodies all of them in every aspect of our daily work -- on and off the field."

Beckham could make 3/4 big signings

Any team needs players, though, and with this latest update, speculation is already beginning to circle as to whom Beckham will target.

The MLS is renowned for making marquee signings for players in the final years of their career and Inter Miami will take on a similar strategy, while still bringing through younger players.

And according to the Daily Mail, there's three or four big names that Beckham could be considering for the club's first match in two year's time.

Here are some of the players apparently being weighed up:

Radamel Falcao

Miami has a huge Colombian population and Falcao has previously spoken of playing stateside in the past with Florida proving a particular attraction. He would be 34 in 2020 and thus would be a perfect age to make the transition to the MLS.

James Rodriguez would prove too big of a challenge for Inter Miami and as Falco's renaissance back at Monaco shows, he's still got that lethal goalscoring touch.

Cristiano Ronaldo

That's right, Inter Miami are believed to be aiming high for the next two years of preparation. The Mail reports that Ronaldo is 'set to be top of David Beckham's Inter Miami hit list' and will be coming towards the end of his Juventus contract in 2020.

It would take an MLS record bid to secure the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, but the commercial value of his signing and impact on the pitch would be worth every penny.

Wayne Rooney

The Mail reckons that Beckham will be using his extensive network of connections to secure some major signings and former England teammate Rooney could be one of them. He would prove the perfect addition given his experience with DC United this season.

While some fading stars don't necessary take to MLS with ease, Rooney has impressed and would be 35 years old when Inter Miami kick off.

James Milner

Not exactly a massive name compared to Ronaldo and Rooney but Milner could fancy a change of scenery after two more years with Liverpool. The Mail notes how his fluency in Spanish would be perfect for a Miami switch with Beckham channelling the 'Latin American market.'

His physicality and hard work would prove an invaluable addition to Beckham's project and would prove far cheaper than possible alternatives.

You really can't fault Beckham for ambition and although signing all four seems incredibly unlikely, just two of these purchases would be a major statement.

Beckham deserves credit for taking on such a major challenge and only time will tell how Inter Miami will adapt to the increasingly competitive MLS.

And it will certainly take a few big names to follow in the legacy of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Steven Gerrard, Andrea Pirlo and Beckham himself.
