Given the furore surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Juventus this summer, it’s easy to forget that also signed Emre Can on a free transfer from Liverpool.

For months, Can appeared set to join the Old Lady with his contract set to expire at Anfield at the end of last season.

And on June 21, Can finally made his long-awaited move to the Serie A champions.

It was a move that confused many.

Why would Can - who was starting almost every match under Jurgen Klopp when fit - leave the Champions League finalists?

Juve may be European giants but they’ve strolled to the league title for the previous seven seasons.

Can is hardly challenging himself by moving to Turin.

However, one former Juventus player may have just revealed the main reason the midfielder wanted the move - and it will come as no surprise to Liverpool fans.

Jurgen Kohler - who played for Juventus for four seasons - believes Can was attracted by the money being offered by his former club.

"Sporting-wise, yes [it was the right move]," Kohler told German outlet Sport1.

"The new situation is very interesting for him, although he had good games and developed well at Liverpool.

"He'll earn more in Turin than he did with the Reds, which of course was the reason for the change. Any players who say otherwise are not telling the truth.”

In truth, Liverpool fans haven’t lost any sleep over Can leaving for Juve on a free transfer.

The club brought in Naby Keita and Fabinho in the summer - although the Brazilian is yet to make an appearance.

And with James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson also vying for a regular first-team position, Klopp has plenty of options in the middle of the park.

Klopp probably believed that if a player has his head turned by the opportunity to earn a little bit of extra money elsewhere, then he may as well leave.
